I've merged your current git repository on my side; here is a new patch for your latest git entry (2008-12-12 00:24:39) that contains only the changes for the large file support and the bug mentioned above - should be easier to read/apply:
LargeFilesPatch.rar

Hi,

This looks like it could be ideal. I would LOVE to be able to play videos direct from archives, unpacking is such a pain.

Am I to understand it doesn't yet work with files over 2 Gb. I ask because I'm trying to play one and it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure the archive is uncompressed (packed size is exactly the same as file size, nearly 5 Gb) but I don't know how to check for definite.

When I try to play the archive I get:

Unable to play ....
This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues.

Also, all the files of the archive have the .rar extension, as opposed to rar, r00, r01 etc, but the filenames end in part001, part002 etc. Could this be an issue?

Apologies if this is a daft question, but I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to this kind of thing.

Cheers

The version on OctaneSnail's page does not yet include the large file fix, if you want to try it you can use RARFileSource.rar until then.

The filter works with the new numbering system, so that's not an issue.

Oh man, that works a treat. You can even skip about the file with no problems.

Thank you SO MUCH for the super quick reply and putting that up for me.

Again, apologies if I'm being daft, but I saw some chat about SmartPlay earlier in the thread. Just so you know, I've got that ticked in my options and everything just worked, I didn't have to mess about with Source Filters or anything.

Thanks again.

Sorry for double post, but I just realised I should also be thanking OctaneSnail for creating the thing in the first place.

ZP automatically switches to standard play if smart play does not work, so that's probably why you didn't have to change anything.

Everything merged and ready to be pushed.

But first, do you want a contact e-mail listed in the copyright headers and git commits of the files you authored?

Okelidokeli, git repository updated.

Nice work on the media type detection, it's just like I imagined it but was to lazy to implement myself... I fixed up some bugs for you instead. wink.gif

I've finally started to put together an installer today, I'm using NSIS, pretty neat, should be done quickly I hope. After that I'll publish a new release.

Nice!

The installer complains about the Redist even if you have the files through e.g. Visual Studio itself, but then again we can assume that developers are smart enough to click on ignore smile.gif

Yea, I know. I tried to detect mvcr90.dll directly but that SxS system or whatever Microsoft calls it is a royal pain in the butt. Finally I just settled for looking for a regkey the redist installer sets and adding the ignore button for people in the know. wacko.gif

I followed the instructions: install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, install RARFileSource and remove RAR entry from archive playback .... but it won't work for me.

I rar'd a small avi file called KungFu and created KungFu.rar. When I open with Zoom Player I receive the error:

"Unable to play [Kungfu.rar] This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues."

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Did you use "Store" as compression method?

This is going to sound silly but I can't find that Windows which you have shown with the settings?? I went into the Program folder and there is no .exe or shell to configure the RAR handling? Is it somewhere else? Thank you so much for your help.

That is the dialog WinRAR displays when you are creating a rar file.
